In addition to his medical career, he serves as a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, a full-time father to four children, an athlete, and an active volunteer.     Early Life and Foundation in Sports

    Dr. McInnis was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, where he was the eldest of four children. Growing up, he played various sports, including hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. He played hockey and baseball at a competitive level, and his athletic abilities earned him opportunities that reflected his talent. He played Junior A hockey and was even scouted by the Boston Red Sox, who evaluated him for a position as a pitcher.

He began working at 10, delivering newspapers through a paper route, and by 13, he started his first full-time job at McDonald's. He began his post-secondary education at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he completed a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1992. Following his undergraduate studies, he took some time off to travel throughout the United States, gaining a broader perspective before returning to his academic pursuits.

     

    In 1997, Dr. McInnis earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with honors in Biochemistry and Genetics from Dalhousie University. His academic focus was on the sciences, and his work in these fields set the foundation for his future medical studies.

     

    Dr. McInnis entered Dalhousie Medical School in 2000, where he dedicated himself to his medical education. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2004. During his medical training, he further specialized in family medicine and emergency medicine, two fields that would become central to his career.

     

    To supplement his medical education, Dr. McInnis also received an Epidemiology Certification from Dalhousie University in 2002, demonstrating his commitment to understanding public health and the broader context of medicine.
